NELA, Network of European Landscape Architecture Archives
On 18 September 2019, various European archives partnered up to create a network whose aim is to underpin landscape architecture’s historical foundations at the international level. This will be based on fruitful organizational exchange between specialists at the relevant European archives. We will develop a set of standards, interlink the individual holdings, and raise their profile in the public eye. Plans are under way to implement cooperative programmes of teaching and research as well as joint publications and exhibitions.
NELA currently consists of eight archives. Its founders are from Austria, Norway, and Switzerland, and besides holdings from these countries, it also includes landscape architecture archives from Belgium, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Hungary. New members are welcome to join the network. A communication structure is now being established, with preliminary projects developed in monthly online conferences. Provisions have been made for an annual meeting as a forum for personal exchange. This is also open to people from outside the archives with an interest in the subject.
